The way in which people who are deafblind communicate and experience the world is so fascinating to me. My encounter with a student who is deafblind at a sports camp in 2002 impacted me so much that I instantly knew I wanted to work in the field of deafblindness.
Ever since this encounter, I have taken advantage of many volunteer and work opportunities involving students that are deafblind with additional disabilities. I have been involved with the Minnesota DeafBlind Project, DeafBlind Services Minnesota, and worked in the deafblind unit at Perkins School for the Blind in the summer of 2005. After graduating from college and having completed a training series for Interveners in Minnesota, I worked as a full-time intervener for a first-grade student.
I completed my undergraduate degree at University of Minnesota- Twin Cities in Elementary Education with a minor in Spanish. Currently, I am studying at the University of Arizona in the Severe and Multiple Disabilities graduate program, with an emphasis in DeafBlindness. In my free time I enjoy staying active with yoga, jogging, being outdoors, and traveling.
