2009-2010 Fellows: Emilie Mulholland

emilie_mulholland.jpgI am from Heber City, Utah. I have a genetic severe-to-profound hearing loss and wear hearing aids in both ears. Three of my siblings and my mother also have hearing losses of varying degrees. I grew up oral, until she learned Cued American English with my family. My family, along with my husband, now use Cued American English as our main mode of communication in the home. I am also fluent in American Sign Language. I am married to Bryan and have one son, Kiernan.

I graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in Early Childhood Education. I am currently pursuing my master’s degree at the University of Utah. I am majoring in Early Childhood Special Education with an emphasis in deaf education while also seeking licenses in early intervention, 0-5 deaf education, and K-12 deaf education.

I worked as a 2nd grade teacher for a year before pursuing my master’s degree. I have also taught at a bi-lingual deaf school.
