2009-2010 Fellows: Christel Smith Williams

cristel_smith_williams.jpgMy name is Christel Smith Williams.  I am married with 2 children.  I have recently passed National Boards in Mild to Moderate Disabilities 0 to 21.  I have been awarded the Helen Keller Fellowship, the Pathways scholarship, and inducted into the Golden Key International Honor Society.

I graduated from Peace College in 1992 with an Associates of Arts Degree and Barton College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Hearing Impaired K-12.  I also have a certificate in Learning Disabilities and Special Education:  General Curriculum.  I am a fourteen year teaching veteran.  I have participated in the 200th anniversary of Lewis and Clark trial, canoeing and hiking through Montana with other participants selected from North Carolina through NCCAT (North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching). 

I am currently working on my Master’s Degree in Low Incidence Populations with a graduate certificate in Deaf-Blind.  I am an advocate for children and love teaching.  I currently serve as an Inclusion teacher at Dixon Middle School in Sneads Ferry, North Carolina.
